Cloud Workstation (Desktop) Overview

Islanda® Cloud Workstations are virtual machines that separate your PC desktop from an individual piece of computer hardware and make it part of the Cloud. Your desktop is then accessible from any Internet connected PC or Thin Client*. The basic benefits of this are obvious. Your desktop and all of your folders/directories, applications, and files are no longer tied to just one PC. No more remote access or login programs, no more unsynchronized copies of work files on your home PC and laptop. Your office desktop is wherever you need it.
But wait, there’s more! Islanda® Cloud Workstations allow you to take maximum benefit of your Islanda® Cloud Servers. We add as many workstations as you need to your own Active Directory (LDAP) domain in our Islanda® Cloud Data Center. You then have the benefit of Active Directory security, access control, and usage policy. We configure your domain policies and security to your specifications at setup. Each employee’s Desktop is their personal space just as if it was on their own PC but it is a fully managed work environment set to your policies and is fully firewalled, with daily antivirus updates and complete file backups available.
If you wish your employees may work from home, a remote office, or from any PC in your office at your discretion. If an employee has problems with their Cloud Desktop just call and we will restore their Cloud Desktop instantly with all files saved. The Islanda® Cloud Workstation is always current with the latest updates and eliminates the hours lost every month while your employees fool with files, PC configurations, printing problems, malware and viruses.

Cloud Workstation Options

• We currently offer our Islanda® Cloud Workstations with Microsoft XP installed. This requires an XP or Vista Business license which we can provide. As with our servers this license is yours and is transferrable to any other PC virtual or real unlike the OS software that comes with a purchased PC. That software, OEM Licensed, is useable only on the PC that it came with and cannot be transferred.
• You may install any other desktop applications that you wish, Microsoft Office 2007 for instance, and we will assist you in determining if you have a useable license or need to purchase a license.
• We recommend and will include at your request a complete copy of Open Office on your Cloud Workstations. You may want to try this as it is completely compatible with Microsoft Office files but is Open Source and free.
• Your Islanda® Cloud Workstations are completely backed up by us every week but you may include file backup with daily incremental additions as part of your Islanda® Cloud package.

*Thin Clients are simple terminal devices (keyboard, mouse, monitor, USB and networking) that replace expensive PCs.
