Islanda^®

The central product of the Islanda® Cloud Service is the virtual server. Islanda® Cloud Servers can easily and economically replace traditional physical servers for file and application functions. Because virtual servers operate much more efficiently on the underlying server hardware the operational cost is up to 40% lower than traditional physical servers. The reduction in wasted resources including power combined with a nearly complete elimination of capital costs makes the virtual server today’s choice.

Islanda® Cloud Servers are built within the VMware 4.0 Enterprise hypervisor operating on clustered Dell R805 ESX Servers with Dell EqualLogic Storage Area Networks. The VMware server cluster provides inherent stability and assurance against simple hardware failures dependent on the availability level chosen. Islanda® Virtual Machines are hosted in a high security data center environment with 7x24 guards backed up with biometric access. DRFortress, the home of the Islanda® Cloud Data Center is Honolulu’s only N+1 data center with complete power backup. Islanda’s data center network is at the highest commercial standard utilizing Cisco ASA security devices, routers, and switches. The physical network is extended into the cloud with full virtual switching for maximum flexibility and security.

All Islanda® Cloud Virtual Machines can operate within the client’s own Active Directory domain or Linux based LDAP access control system.  You virtual data center is designed for you and managed by Islanda® VMware Certified Engineers. Islanda® Engineers also posses other industry certifications from Microsoft, Cisco Systems and Linux. Your virtual domain and data center is completely isolated from other domains operating on the same base hardware. Each virtual data center is the exact equivalent of dedicated servers, storage, and network hardware operating in your own physical data center. Islanda® operates and manages the VMware infrastructure and acts as your corporate data center staff maintaining the IT infrastructure on which your virtual systems run. We do not require access to your servers and can leave complete access and control at the root level of your dedicated virtual servers to your own internal staff if you choose. 

Direct virtual server support and maintenance can be provided as an option.  

Each Islanda® Cloud Virtual Machine includes weekly image backup providing basic redundancy of systems and data as well as minimal disaster recovery capability. File level backups at desired intervals are optional and are provided with separate machine level iSCSI arrays which may also include offsite storage. These options will be presented and selected during the custom design of your virtual data center.

Islanda® Cloud High Availability (HA) Server

The Islanda® High Availability Cloud Server is designed for critical implementations requiring ‘no fail’ operation. Utilizing VMware High Availability this makes maximum use of our underlying ESX clustered servers. If an individual node (physical server) in a cluster stops working the Cloud HA Servers resident on that cluster are automatically relocated (if necessary).. This will create a short pause in services but will have no other operational effect. Islanda® personnel will automatically be notified to identify the underlying problem and return that server cluster to full operation.
Islanda® Cloud High Availability Servers are configured so that none will go down short of a catastrophic simultaneous multi-server failure. This configuration requires significantly greater resources from the underlying Islanda® VMware systems that our Economy Servers.

Islanda® Cloud Economy (EC) Server

The Islanda® Cloud Economy Server is designed to make the efficiency of virtual servers available to smaller businesses while reducing costs in larger business’s virtual data centers for less demanding server applications. For small businesses requiring only a file server the Islanda®Cloud Economy Server may be the opportunity to move off of insecure and rarely backed up shared drives in the office. With an Islanda®Economy Server even the smallest business has an enterprise class data center and data center staff providing full support.
The ability to add memory and storage to your server with an email or phone call further eliminates the problems that often cripple small business IT systems. For larger organizations the ability to add another server for additional load balancing, development, or testing without capital costs and for as little as a few weeks of usage can open up business opportunities or increase organizational flexibility in ways never previously anticipated.
Islanda®Cloud Economy Servers operate on the same server clusters as High Availability Servers but without the automated move and restart. Depending on the total virtual machine loading on the server cluster a node (server) failure may result in only reduced performance if spare capacity is available on the cluster after High Availability Servers have been restarted. In the worst case an Economy Server may be down for up to twelve hours for complete failed hardware replacement.
